@0A@ TomCat! allows you the ability to pre-configure your default values to
permit fast and easy retrieval of your new messages along with uploading
your replies.
With the advent of "robot dialers", it's also handy to have all your
settings defined ahead of time allowing the dialers to automatically
logon to the BBS, upload replies and download new messages during the
early morning hours. The mail can then be waiting for you when you
enjoy your morning coffee.
Shown below is a description of the available options. Depending on
the system configuration, some options may or may not be available.
@0E@[@0F@C@0E@]onfigure conferences -
@0A@This option allows you to select which conferences you wish to
include in your QWK packet. Normally, you would select only
those conferences that are of interest to you and exclude the
remaining ones.
This is identical to the @0E@[@0F@U@0E@]pdate Conference Scan/Read@0A@ option
found on the BBS's Message Menu. Selecting conferences here
will also update which conferences are selected when scanning
or reading messages while on the BBS.
Selecting this option displays a list of conferences available
with the "last read" message number enclosed in parentheses.
This number is only displayed if the conference has been
previously selected. Selection is indicated by a asterisk (@0C@*@0A@)
displayed to the left of the conference description. If a
greater-than symbol "@0C@>@0A@" is displayed, it indicates that this
conference has been selected for personal mail only. General
messages from this conference will not be included in the QWK
packet. Shown below is a sample display.
@0F@0. @0C@*@0E@General Messages -Local @0B@(565) @0F@ 7. @0E@NOVELL LAN Conf -Fido
@0F@1. @0C@*@0E@Games Information -Local @0B@(165) @0F@ 8. @0C@*@0E@WILDCAT! Conference -Fido @0B@(753)

@0F@6. @0C@*@0E@SysOp to SysOp -Local @0B@(85) @0F@13. @0E@ANIME Conference -Fido
- More below, use [@0F@+@0E@] to view - "@0C@>@0E@" means personal mail only -
Enter #, [@0F@L@0E@]ist, [@0F@+@0E@]Next, [@0F@S@0E@]ort, List [@0F@A@0E@]ll, List [@0F@O@0E@]nly selected,
[@0F@T@0E@]oggle menu, or [@0F@ENTER@0E@] to quit?
@0A@After a list of available conferences has been displayed, you
are presented with a prompt of available options. Shown below
is a description of those options.
@0E@Enter # -
@0A@This number indicates the conference you wish to update
from the list displayed. Selecting a number presents a
similar sub-prompt.
@0E@Do you want to scan "General Message Area"
[P=Personal only] [@0F@Y@0E@/@0F@n@0E@/@0F@p@0E@]?
@0A@Shown below is a description of these options.
@0E@[@0F@P@0E@]ersonal only -
@0A@When this flag is set, only messages from this
conference addressed to you will be extracted.
This is handy for picking up mail outside of your
usual conferences.
@0E@[@0F@Y@0E@]es -
@0A@This is used to select this conference for all
messages since the last time you read mail. This
will also update your settings in WILDCAT! as well.
After @0E@[@0F@Y@0E@]es@0A@ has been entered, you're presented
with the following sub-prompt.
@0E@Message numbers in this conference range from @0F@1@0E@ to @0F@904@0E@. Current is @0F@900@0E@.
Enter new message pointer, [@0F@H@0E@]elp, [@0F@ENTER@0E@ = no change]:
@0A@From here you can reset your "last read" message
number by any of 4 possible methods.
@0F@10 @0E@- Sets your message pointer to 10
@0F@-10 @0E@- Gives you the last 10 messages
@0F@10% @0E@- Gives you the last 10% of total number
of messages
@0F@mm/dd/yy @0E@- Gives you all messages since the date
specified
@0A@After selection, TomCat! will proceed to reset the
message pointer for this conference. Additional
information is available by selecting the @0E@[@0F@H@0E@]elp
@0A@ option.
@0E@[@0F@N@0E@]o -
@0A@When chosen, this will turn off all scanning and
reading of mail from both TomCat! and from within
WILDCAT!
@0E@[@0F@L@0E@]ist -
@0A@Redisplays a list of all conferences starting from the
lowest available number.
@0E@[@0F@+@0E@]Next -
@0A@This option is only displayed if the number of
available conferences exceeds the maximum allowed per
screen. When chosen, this will display the next screen
full of conferences.
@0E@[@0F@-@0E@]Prev -
@0A@This performs the exact same function as the @0E@[@0F@+@0E@]Next
@0A@ option except it displays the previous screen full
of conferences. These two options together are used
to scroll forward and backward in the list of
conferences.
@0E@[@0F@S@0E@]ort -
@0A@This option is used to select the method in which the
conferences are displayed on the screen. This is only
provided as a convenience when updating conferences.
This sort method applies when using any of the List
methods. Selecting this option presents the following
sub-prompt.
@0E@Sort by [@0F@N@0E@]ame or [@0F@C@0E@]onference number [@0F@n@0E@/@0F@c@0E@]
@0A@Below is a description of the sort methods.
@0E@[@0F@N@0E@]ame -
@0A@This will display conferences sorted in
alphabetic order.
@0E@[@0F@C@0E@]onference number -
@0A@This will display conferences sorted in
numeric order.
@0E@List [@0F@A@0E@]ll -
@0A@This will display all conferences available to you.
This option in conjunction with the @0E@List [@0F@O@0E@]nly
selected@0A@ are used to toggle the main @0E@[@0F@L@0E@]ist@0A@ method.
For example, if @0E@List [@0F@O@0E@]nly selected@0A@ option was the
last list method chosen, selecting the @0E@[@0F@L@0E@]ist@0A@ option
will display only those conferences are were
previously selected.
@0E@List [@0F@O@0E@]nly selected -
@0A@Performs the same as @0E@List [@0F@A@0E@]ll@0A@ except it will only
display conferences that have been previously
selected (indicated by a asterisk (@0C@*@0A@) next to the
conference description). All other conferences will
not be listed.
@0E@[@0F@T@0E@]oggle menu -
@0A@This option is used to globally change the selection
of conferences. Selecting this option presents the
following sub-prompt.
@0E@Global conference toggle options:
[@0F@1@0E@] Deselect all conferences
[@0F@2@0E@] Select all conferences for all mail
[@0F@3@0E@] Select remaining confs for personal mail only
[@0F@4@0E@] Turn off all "personal mail only" selections
Enter selection, [@0F@ENTER@0E@] to quit?
@0A@From here, selecting the appropriate number will
perform the desired operation.
@0E@[@0F@ENTER@0E@] to quit -
@0A@Exits the Configure Conferences selection and return
to the Configuration Menu.
@0E@[@0F@R@0E@]eset high msg pointers -
@0A@This option is used to reset the "last read" messages pointers
in the previously selected conferences. It will not reset any
of the "private mail only" conferences or the unselected
conferences. Selecting this option presents the following
sub-prompt.
There are three methods of setting your high message pointers -
by number, by percentage of total messages in conference, or by
date.
@0E@Examples:
@0F@-10 @0E@- Gives you the last 10 messages in each conference
@0F@10% @0E@- Gives you the last 10% of total number of messages
@0F@mm/dd/yy @0E@- Gives you all messages since the date specified
Set message pointers [@0F@ENTER@0E@ = abort]:
@0A@From here, you can enter the appropriate method. Depending on
how many conferences have been selected, this may take a moment
or two. When TomCat! is finished, you will be returned to the
Configuration Menu.
@0E@[@0F@U@0E@]pload PS-BBS.PTR file -
@0A@Mail packets created by TomCat! contain a special pointer file.
This file is a image of the high message number before and
after the last mail packet download. It is useful for resetting
pointers after a failed transfer, or to recover lost messages if
a packet is accidently deleted.
To use this function, you must first extract the xxx.PTR file
(where xxx = BBS ID) from the last QWK packet successfully
downloaded from this BBS. Then from the Configuration Menu,
selecting @0E@[@0F@R@0E@]eset message pointers@0A@ option, upload the xxx.PTR
file when prompted. After the upload is complete, you will be
presented with the following sub-prompt.
@0E@This pointer file is dated mm/dd/yy at hh/mm/ss.
Do you want to reset pointers [@0F@B@0E@]efore or [@0F@A@0E@]fter this
pointer file [@0F@B@0E@/@0F@a@0E@]?
@0A@Depending on the selection, the message pointers will be set
accordingly. This will allow you to recover from a failed
download or possibly a lost QWK packet.
@0E@[@0F@N@0E@]ew files scan -
@0A@Depending on the system configuration, you can include a list of
recently uploaded files by toggling this option.
@0E@[@0F@D@0E@]ate for new files -
@0A@Selecting this option allows you to specify what date to perform
a new files search when downloading your next QWK packet.
@0E@[@0F@I@0E@]nclude new bulletins -
@0A@Depending on the system configuration, you can include all the
recently updated bulletin by toggling this option.
@0E@[@0F@M@0E@]aximum packet sizes -
@0A@This option is used to define the maximum number of messages
per packet extracted from the available conferences along with
the maximum number of messages per conference. Selecting this
option allows you to set these values up to the maximum defined
by the SysOp.
@0E@[@0F@A@0E@]ttachment size limit -
@0A@Messages within WILDCAT! support the ability to have files
attached to them. This option allows you to define the maximum
file size allowed in Kbytes that is attached to a message you
wish to be included with the QWK packet. Once the file size has
been defined, you are then asked if you would like to have
messages NOT addressed to you with attached files to be sent, or
only those that ARE addressed to you included in the QWK packet.
@0E@[@0F@T@0E@]ransfer protocol -
@0A@This is used to define what transfer protocol will be used when
uploading and downloading QWK packets. This is used in the
exact same manner as selecting your default protocol while in
the BBS. When the default method is chosen here, it will then
automatically update your user settings when using the BBS.
Selecting this option presents the following sub-prompt.
@0E@Select a default protocol:
[@0F@S@0E@]elect at time of transfer
[@0F@Z@0E@] Zmodem [@0F@Y@0E@] Ymodem [@0F@O@0E@] Xmodem/1K [@0F@C@0E@] Xmodem/CRC
[@0F@X@0E@] Xmodem [@0F@K@0E@] Kermit [@0F@Q@0E@]uit
PROTOCOL MENU [@0F@S Z Y O C X K Q@0E@]:
@0A@If a specific protocol is selected, when starting the download
or upload, you will need to make sure you are using that exact
same protocol on your end.
@0E@[@0F@P@0E@]acker (archiver) -
@0A@This option is used to select what compression method is used
on the QWK packet. Depending on how the system is configured,
you may or may not have all the compression methods listed
below. Selecting this option presents the following sub-prompt.
@0E@Select a packer:
[@0F@Z@0E@] PKZIP [@0F@A@0E@] PKPAK [@0F@L@0E@] LHA [@0F@J@0E@] ARJ
[@0F@Q@0E@]uit
PACKER MENU [@0F@Z A L J Q@0E@]:
@0A@Selecting the appropriate compression utility will then return
you to the Configuration Menu.
@0E@[@0F@F@0E@]ormat for packets -
@0A@When selected, this option allows you to define what format
you want your packet in. At present, there are two options,
QWK format and standard ASCII text. More formats may be added
as they become available. Selecting this option presents the
following sub-prompt.
@0E@Do you want [@0F@Q@0E@]WK or [@0F@T@0E@]ext packets [@0F@Q@0E@/t]?
@0A@Below is a brief description.
@0E@[@0F@Q@0E@]WK -
@0A@This is the standard format used by the vast majority
of offline mail readers.
@0E@[@0F@T@0E@]ext packets -
@0A@This is standard ASCII text format. Any standard
display utility can be used to read the messages
with, however, this only useful for reading mail.
At present there no provisions available for replying
to any of these messages.
@0E@[@0F@G@0E@]oodbye after upload -
@0A@This option is used to automatically log you off the BBS when
the upload of your .REP file is complete. This feature is often
used when using robot type dialers on pre-scheduled mail runs.
@0E@[@0F@H@0E@]elp with configuration -
@0A@Displays this Help screen.
@0E@[@0F@Q@0E@]uit back to TomCat! Main Menu -
@0A@Exit Configuration Menu and return to the TomCat! Main Menu.
